25/01/10 - Jamies Visa

So, we found out due to several circumstances beyond our control that we are going to need to stay in England for a little while longer. This means that we have to now get Jamie a residency visa. I spoke with the UKBA to find out what the requirements were. I found out the following:

  • Jamie doesn't need to repeat the life in the UK test (Massive phew)
  • Jamie has until the 19th July to apply
  • This will give her indefinite leave to remain
  • This will lift the restriction on recourse to public funds
  • She can apply in person or by post
  • In person is £1020 with same day approval
  • By post is £820 with 6 months to wait for approval
  • As long as she applies by 19th July, she can stay in the UK
Getting approval means access to public funds. This will allow Jamie to gain funds to study. It will open up several more opportunities for her as opposed to her limited leave to remain visa.
