Stephen Fry In America

We’ve recently been watching a BBC show called Stephen Fry in America. Read his blog about it here. It has been quite interesting to watch his journey across America.

Last nights show was quite different. He travelled from New Mexico to Utah to Arizona to Nevada and then on to California.

I have to say that we were quite disappointed when he only touched the very bottom of Utah. He was at Lake Powell. We thought that the Mormons might get a bit of mention.

While he was in Las Vegas, the Mormons did get a mention. He talked about how the Mormons set up Las Vegas and talked to a couple of people about Mormonism. I have to say that I was a bit apprehensive when he fist mentioned it. It turned out to be quite positive. I was quite impressed that it wasn’t derogatory in any way.

Here is a trailer from the beginning of the show

A Groom Again

So, Jamie and I got sealed in the Bountiful Temple on November 28th. Here are some pictures from our sealing.

Brum Brum Or Woof Woof

Let me start off this post by saying if I didn’t write I was under fear of being buried in a back yard with a dog!

So, it’s Wednesday August 9th right now and i’ve just seen an advertisment for Pixar’s Cars. It reminded me that I need to write about the time I went to see it in West Jordan, Utah.

I went with a friend of mine to see the movie and I highly recommend people to go and see it. The charcters are great. I particularly like the character of Mater. Mater is a tow truck in Radiator Springs.

Mater cracked me up, he was the character I most laughed at. I like the scene where he goes tractor tipping. Hilarious. I’m gonna include some pictures in this blog

Why you don’t fly

So, what a nightmare I had with my flights. I should have figured though. I never have any luck with flights.

I got up at 5am. Got all of our stuff ready. Got to the in-laws around 6am. Picked up our suitcases and headed for the airport – I had to be there by 7am as I had an 8:10 internal flight. Or so I thought!

I got to the queue to check in, only to be confronted by a member of the Continental team. She asked me if I was headed out on the 8:10 flight to Baltimore via Houston, Texas. I replied that I was and she said that I needed to see a booking clerk to rearrange my flight as it was late arriving due to bad weather and that it would be 2 hours late leaving.

This wouldn’t have been an issue had I not had a connecting flight in Houston an hour before we would have landed. That in turn would have made me late for my flight to London.

I got up to the desk and I was given another ticket for a direct flight to Baltimore on another airline. Much to my dismay, this was with Delta. You have to know how much I hate flying with Delta.

I got to security and was selected for extra security screening. Why was I not surprised!

I got on the plane – the only saving grace for Delta is that I was in Zone 1 to board. I was the 6th person on the plane. Much to the disadvantage for myself though was the fact that it was hard to get myself wedged in between the armrests. What an uncomfortable 4 hours that was.

I got to Baltimore with 4 hours before my plane to London. I double checked with a Delta rep to make sure that my luggage would make it all the way to London as the guy in Salt Lake said it would but wasn’t sure.

A British Airways rep called me to the desk as they had my luggage at the side of the plane and they needed proof that Delta had checked it all the way. Ask me if I am surprised!

I got on the plane and managed to get a minimal amount of sleep due to some rowdy child in the row in front of me.

We got to London 35 minutes early, but had to circle in the hub because of traffic on the ground – just when I thought it was going well. We circled around Kingston-upon-Thames a couple of times and then out over south east London where I used to live and then back to the aiport.

I got through immigration, customs and baggage pick up really quick. I then went to get the wife. I went to the wrong terminal first off. I managed to find her and we headed to where we were getting picked up.

There was traffic all the way home, but we finally made it. What a nice feeling that was.

On Top Of The World (Or 11,000 Feet Closer)

So, yesterday (being Saturday July 8th) the wife and I and the in-laws decided to go to Snowbird ski resort in Utah.

It was good to go and see it, but we had such a hard time getting there. The car was chugging up the canyon at about 20 miles an hour. We finally made it- even though the car was overheating. I did have to put the hazard lights on though.

Snowbird was good. I enjoyed it. We took the tram right up to the top of the mountain. How I did not enjoy being up that high! 11,000 feet – give me a break!.

Jamie decided that she would joke around and pretend to push me – scared the pants off me. I am so afraid of heights. My legs were shaking all the time I was up there.

I took the tram back down and looked around. We went on the ski lift that was there and when we were in it I was shaking it – much to the displeasure of Jamie.

When we got off the lift we decided to go on the Alpine Slide. I fell gracefully – yeah right – into the slide. Jamie hurt herself as she fell into the slide too. We went down and Jamie left me for dust. It was a good time though.

I was a bit relieved when the time came to leave and we could get back onto solid low ground.
