Yodel-ay-hee-hoo

So, this weekend (Sunday 29/07) until Wednesday 01/08 I went off to Europe with my brother. He is a long distance lorry driver and had the opportuninty to take me along with him.

It was great. I enjoyed it.

We started off in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. We drove down to Dover – it went a little wrong there. We were stuck in customs for 5 hours as they didn’t have all the paperwork. Also, we had a LOT of whisky on board so that didn’t help the process.

We finally got on the ferry. We sailed over to Calais. About half way between you could see England and France. It was an alright day too.

From Calais, we headed off onto the wilds of the European Road Network. We managed to get as far as a rest stop close to the French/Belgian border. It was a well needed break though. The scenery on the way was really nice. There were loads of fields and also churches dotted all over the landscape.

At 2am we were ready to head off again. I managed to somehow fall from the lorry. I fell on my side and on my belly. It didn’t hurt, but scared me like crazy. We managed to get as far as Switzerland.

Switzerland is really nice. It’s like it is shown to be. Loads of mountains and beautiful scenery. We drove up some alpine mountain roads. Crazy that we managed to do it though. We also drove through downtown Zurich. Such a nice town.

Well, that summed up the trip to Europe. Now I am back at home and ready to go to Paris at the weekend.

On our way… Again!

You read it right. We are on our way again. Moving, again, I hear you all say. Sadly it’s true. I sat and figured out how many times i’d moved in my 27 years on earth. It turns out that moving from Doncaster will be move number 37 for me. That’s right – a whopping 37!

The lady that we live with here in Doncaster, has decided that when she goes off to Australia, she wants her home locked down while she is away – with nobody staying in it.

Guess where that leaves us though? We’re back off on our travels to my folks. This time, we are going to be staying in the shed – or the pool house as I like to call it.

I think Jamie is more for this than I am. I am a little apprehensive about going back to the folks house. I think she is more for it because she has been given free reign in the shed. She has been told she can deck it out any way she wants. Uh-oh I hear you say for me.

My job ends this coming Wednesday (25 Oct) and i’m kinda happy about that. It also means I have to find another job though. The last couple of days of the week is for us to pack – yet again!

We figured that we’d say Sayonara to our wonderful landlady (Please note the oozing sarcasm in that sentence).

Why you don’t fly

So, what a nightmare I had with my flights. I should have figured though. I never have any luck with flights.

I got up at 5am. Got all of our stuff ready. Got to the in-laws around 6am. Picked up our suitcases and headed for the airport – I had to be there by 7am as I had an 8:10 internal flight. Or so I thought!

I got to the queue to check in, only to be confronted by a member of the Continental team. She asked me if I was headed out on the 8:10 flight to Baltimore via Houston, Texas. I replied that I was and she said that I needed to see a booking clerk to rearrange my flight as it was late arriving due to bad weather and that it would be 2 hours late leaving.

This wouldn’t have been an issue had I not had a connecting flight in Houston an hour before we would have landed. That in turn would have made me late for my flight to London.

I got up to the desk and I was given another ticket for a direct flight to Baltimore on another airline. Much to my dismay, this was with Delta. You have to know how much I hate flying with Delta.

I got to security and was selected for extra security screening. Why was I not surprised!

I got on the plane – the only saving grace for Delta is that I was in Zone 1 to board. I was the 6th person on the plane. Much to the disadvantage for myself though was the fact that it was hard to get myself wedged in between the armrests. What an uncomfortable 4 hours that was.

I got to Baltimore with 4 hours before my plane to London. I double checked with a Delta rep to make sure that my luggage would make it all the way to London as the guy in Salt Lake said it would but wasn’t sure.

A British Airways rep called me to the desk as they had my luggage at the side of the plane and they needed proof that Delta had checked it all the way. Ask me if I am surprised!

I got on the plane and managed to get a minimal amount of sleep due to some rowdy child in the row in front of me.

We got to London 35 minutes early, but had to circle in the hub because of traffic on the ground – just when I thought it was going well. We circled around Kingston-upon-Thames a couple of times and then out over south east London where I used to live and then back to the aiport.

I got through immigration, customs and baggage pick up really quick. I then went to get the wife. I went to the wrong terminal first off. I managed to find her and we headed to where we were getting picked up.

There was traffic all the way home, but we finally made it. What a nice feeling that was.

The Wedding

So, I thought I should write about my brothers wedding yesterday (Friday). On Thursday evening we all went to help set up the church and decorate it ready for the ceremony and reception.

It all came to a head when my bro decided he would argue with me and my sis and bro in law. What a night it turned out to be. I told him I wouldn’t be at his wedding and that I wouldn’t read the poem that he asked me to.

We got home and decided we should talk about and we did. It didn’t seem to do anything. It seemed to get worse.

The best thing we decided to do was to go to bed and sleep on it.

Well, it was Friday and wedding time. I decided that I should go just to keep the peace. I decided to go and when I got there my bro apologised to me (He realised he was in the wrong for what happened) and asked if I would read the poem. I told him I would.

The ceremony was ok. After the ceremony we all went outside to get photographs. A few people came up to me and asked me if I had wrote the poem that I read. I was like hell no. This poem was the tackiest and cheesiest poem I have EVER heard. Oh well.

The reception was ok too. I stayed to clean up. We eventually managed to get home by 10pm. How tired was I!!! All in all, it turned out to be a good day and I am glad that I went.

Only 3 weeks – well 20 days – to my wedding. I am excited about it. Jamie is just the absolute best thing to have happened to me.
